Analysis of Durkheim’s “The Elementary Forms of Religious Essay

As depicted in Durkheim’s The Elementary Forms of Religious Life, a totem is evident in each general public. A totem is a representative figure of some animal, being, or thing that speaks to the holiness and rule of god. Basically, a totem is a profane, common item that has been considered by society to have some heavenly, sacrosanct attributes. With this being stated, the item itself doesn't have any heavenly or holy characteristics; rather it is just the portrayal of the totem that holds these attributes. For instance, in the event that a society’s totem is a turtle, at that point a genuine turtle would just be a turtle, however when the turtle is introduced as a totemic seal then this emblematic portrayal of the turtle is consecrated. Durkheim contends that, in light of the fact that the totem is a socially built portrayal of god then the totem itself speaks to society too. Durkheim makes this supposition obviously clear by expressing that â€Å"the divine force of the tribe, the totemic rule, can in this manner be nothing else than the family itself, exemplified and spoke to the creative mind under the noticeable type of the creature or vegetable which fills in as totem. From this, one can presume that Durkheim saw the love of totem as venerating society. Durkheim proceeds to make the contention that god and society are â€Å"equivalent. † God is an outside, non-literal power that holds the individuals venerating it to specific habits and activities. The demonstration of revering said god or totem means that the adherents, devotees, or admirers are needy upon this power to decide the activities they participate in, the practices they display, etc. God and religion exist so as to keep individuals â€Å"in line† by means of ritualized exercises and setting good and moral rules that individuals maintain. Society, all by itself, has similar characteristics. The standards and estimations of a general public, which generally have been joined into the good and moral rules spread out in the society’s religion, are followed whether they are in accordance with the people inborn nature. On account of this trademark, society is itself an outside power that individuals are reliant on, regardless of whether they recognize it. Finally, Durkheim recognizes that these ritualized exercises and shared virtues cultivate the social solidarity and attachment of society. By participating in shared exercises, regardless of whether it be the Islamic ceremony of going to Allah on various occasions a day, the American convention of singing of the national song of devotion before the primary throw of a ball game, or the Catholic ceremony of aking fellowship, we are recognizing that we have a place with a gathering or society. Normal exercises help set up what Durkheim alludes to as â€Å"collective consciousness†, that is a predefined allowance of faith based expectations and qualities that are basic to individuals from a given society or gathering. Imploring a similar god or applauding a similar society, which as indicated by Durkheim are one in the equivalent, empowers the turn of events and upkeep of an all in all held arrangement of ethics, qualities, morals, and convictions.

Data are the one of important assets of the company (Clougherty and Moliterno, 2010). In Data management, there are various steps for managing the data. At first the plan is made that how to manage the data and other requirements, then comes the storing of the data where the organization of files is done. The data are secured and back up is made so that if any tampering is done with those data then a back up file is available. Formats are made on files so that it benefits in the long run(Baldoni, 2006).After the storing is done then comes the sharing of the data where the data storing is found and with that requirements of the journals are met. The database management system is an important feature in the sector of IT management where the resources are the idea of new economy. The significance of database management is not at all like the filing of information in traditional system but it gives more importance to the current technologies in this field (Wiggins, 2012). Under the data management system there are different sections like- data integration, data preparatio n for Hadoop, data quality and data governance (Loshin, 2009). Importance of Data Management For research work data management is one of the important areas and it is one of the complex tasks in any field. While doing a new project the researchers at first tackle the issues which they might face while doing the work because its save their effort and time in the later stage. While expanding, the storage of the data requirements has also increased with investment of the equipments. There are many costs which are hidden are mainly associated with the data management. These costs includes the consumption of current, cooling of this requirements, cabling, backup of this data and recovering them are also done (Liao and Triantaphyllou, 2007). Benefits for managing the data- Detect and interpret the data when it is needed. Evade undesired duplication. If required try to prove the results. Ensure that the research work has its own impact. Take credits when others commend the work. Data management plays an important role in the risk area of the organization. Like- establishing a confinement policy which helps in reducing the costs of the storage and decreases the risk assessment (Choi and Huang, 2014). Drawbacks in Data Management If there is a loss of data then it is a huge risk for the organization and this matter is generally neglected by the organization and this error causes huge loss for the organization. Loss of data is a risk which causes both in external and internal area of the organization. Every company both private and public has a review system which processes the data regularly. The information is made up-to dated and the protection and recovery of the data are also important. The infrastructure of the IT sectors is becoming complex. Accurate security policies are made so that the loss of data can be safeguarded. At every step the data are checked daily to confirm that the data are fitting the purposes or not. Conclusion In todays world of technology data management is one of the important factors. Every organization has lot of data which are used every day of for working and managing and securing those data is a very important job. If by any chance any data gets hacked, misplaced or it gets lost then it will create a lot of problems for the organization. So to keep those data secure the organization should keep more than backups so that it does not affects the work of the organization (Richardson and Hoffman-Kim, 2010). References Baldoni, R. The fashion retail market is split into number of segments – luxury, high street and supermarket/out-of-town discounter (Bruce & Daly, 2006). With the supermarkets having entered the clothing sector, the fashion retail has been redefined. It enables the time-starved consumers to purchase cheap clothing instead of visiting high street. Different retailers adopt a different segmentation strategy depending on the market and the products they have on offer. Segmentation according to Bond and Morris (2003) can either be attitudinal or latent class segmentation. Consumers have different attitudes and these lead to different behavior but this does not apply to the retail fashion sector where customer preferences change by the season. Results on the basis of attitudinal segmentation have been very flat. Latent class segmentation differentiates people on the basis of the degree of their perception of brand, price promotion, sales personnel and product line. Segmenting on this basis gives a better cluster solution which is more robust than based on attitudes. Market positioning strategies are developed by retailers based on product, price and service provision. Store images assist the retailers in determining the positioning strategies (Birtwistle, Clarke & Freathy, 1998). The retailers project an image which matches the targeted customers’ self-image world, which increases customer loyalty. The store image is linked to customer

High school education Essay Example for Free

High school education Essay We can all say education is a big requisite in life, but do we really spend the appropriate time to it? . We sure not†¦, at least I didn’t for a couple of years. Freshman year on high school could be hat year you would never forget. Becomes a new life style, met new people, new hobbies, and new interests. Basically turns out to your biggest change in life. My high school education could of say it was more fun and adventurous than those kids who actually are focus to graduate with a high GPA, get an efficient scholarship, and attend to a reputable university. I started out my freshman year good. I was attending to class, participating and doing class work, I was doing homework. I had no problems, then after my freshman year was over I had many friends that I was expected. Then I got to meet my true friends which I still hang out and do crazy stuff. My sophomore and junior year I went out of control laterally. I never was in school, just to go get my free lunch because, who didn’t liked to be in lunch? Right. To be clearer, anywhere was a better place than school. Yeah I had so much fun, memories than I would never forget, unexpected trips, water balloons fights, ride horsing, and four wheeling, ditching parties, even run away from cops. But like how it needed to happened, it happened. My slacking in grades would be known eventually by my mom. There’s one thing that I’ll be always glad for, I have the most overprotective mom in the world. Her reaction was immediately that the next day she knew about I was not going to school, she was there talking to the principle asking him to make a stop of it. All the trouble that I was into, and all the talks my mom and I had, it made my mind expand to reality and to convince myself that I was not doing good in school and that would affect my future. I catch up my senior year picking up my GPA and grades to proudly get thehigh school education and be able to register at CNM. College is a different level than high school by too much. Here you cannot take the risk to slack not even a little. If you slack not showing up, or not turning homework, grades are really affected. College has help me to raise myself as an adult and take proprieties first. That you are who build your future, that hard work always pays off. I’m thankful to attend to college.

Hamlets Antic Disposition Essay -- GCSE Coursework Shakespeare Hamlet

Hamlet's Antic Disposition      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In William Shakespeare's famous tragedy Hamlet, the main character of the story is one majestically elaborated, aside from being quite complex. There are infinite volumes written about this character because Shakespeare leaves no firm proof of many of his character traits. Yet on Hamlet's antic disposition, meaning his obviously absurd temperament or madness, Shakespeare leaves plenty of reason to believe that it is feigned, meaning that it is simply a ploy to help Hamlet carry out his plans for revenge. It is feigned, meaning that it is faked, merely put on as a faà §ade. This is denoted in various aspects of his antic disposition. Hamlet's antic disposition is self imposed, meaning that he himself decides to appear "mad", assuming the antic disposition willingly because he thinks it meet. It is methodical because there is a system to it. He is able to turn it on and off when he has reason for it; other characters in the play notice it and Hamlet himself states it. Finally, Hamlet's madness is also clever because it allows him to express himself and his thoughts clearly, and through comments full of wit that show his awareness of reality when he mocks other characters in their faces without their noticing. Therefore, Hamlet's antic disposition is not true madness; rather it is feigned because it is self imposed, methodical and clever.    Hamlet's antic disposition is self imposed, meaning that he chooses to impose this disposition upon himself. He willingly appears to be mad in order to obtain all he wants. This comes up in the situation after Hamlet has seen his father's ghost and is with Horatio and Marcellus. He, on this occasion warns them that he does "think meet to put an antic d... ... and off at his will, being it a means for an end. This again, shows that the madness is feigned because true madness lacks method. Finally, the cleverness of his madness shows it to be feigned because he expresses his true opinions through the madness, being able to even mock others willingly, a characteristic that clearly renders his madness fake. Shakespeare lets us know that his main character is mad through all these proofs he leaves behind. Yet there are many other aspects of Shakespeare's Hamlet to be analyzed and discussed, but that you will not find here for they are elsewhere, in endless volumes of infinitely large libraries.    Bibliography:    1. Evolution of Health Care Policy Essay

This chapter discusses the political and economic aspects that have taken both Canada and the US in different paths which is ultimately shaped by the organization and delivery of care with its recent restructuring efforts. The US health care system is a system of private health insurance where most of the population gets benefits through employment or other benefit plans such as those for veterans. There is public health insurance for those on social security called Medicare and those that require social assistance called Medicaid. But, 45 million people are still uninsured and millions are underinsured. Unlike the US, Canada has a universal system of public health insurance where contracts with private non-profit health care institutions such as hospitals and health practitioners deliver care. The national health insurance represents a sense of clarity between â€Å"free market† liberalism and the â€Å"planned economy† socialism. Public financing is considered the optimal form of health care financing due to the fact that insurance is affordable to all citizens no matter how ill, effective cost control over health care services, and there’s universal coverage. With such a system, those that are healthy that do not need many treatments support those that require health care service which ultimately offer good cost control and good equity. Canada and the US have different perspectives in access to their pharmaceuticals. Canada has a public health insurance where people over the age of 65 and those on social assistance are covered. Unlike Quebec that has a drug benefit program for everyone, Ontario has created programs to those that have a large amount of drug costs and the rest of the population has access through private insurance through employment. This causes issues with those that are in low paying or have part-time jobs. Pharmaceuticals here in Canada are regulated by the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board unlike in the US. However, access to medicines for the treatment of cancer is getting more and more expensive and only few that are covered. This material is consistent with what I believed prior to this course with some new knowledge attained. It’s great to look at our health care in depth. As of right now since I just started back at York University this summer, I did not have any health benefits for quite some times so I avoid going to the doctor’s and getting medication because as a student I cannot afford it. If people like myself have better access to coverage, a number of health issues could be avoided. I appreciate what Obama administration is implementing so that the uninsured have access to health care as well.

Sexual Harassment History And The Legality Of The Court...

Module One Paper One-Case Studies Student: Evan Lewis Instructor: Troy W. Harter MBA 6600EOL February 14, 2015 Case Questions 1-3, page 80 Do you agree with the court s decision? explain. I understand that Gannon University has a documented sexual harassment history and the legality of the court decision I agree with. The facts are simple as it relates to our laws. The court understands that there is abuse in the workplace, but focusing on ministerial exceptions with the use of the First Amendment at times can shield a organization such as this. The courts found that the exception does not apply to employment decisions concerning individuals with administrative functions. In this case the chaplain had a position that was a†¦show more content†¦Given the power that religious organizations have under Title VI I, how do you think employment discrimination concerns can be addressed in the religious workplace? I feel employment discrimination concerns can be addressed quite simply in the religious workplace by implementing an organizational policy addressing ministerial exceptions and first amendment rights in relation to respecting an establishment of religion with state. Through ongoing training with staff covering religious rights in the workplace I would give detail and clear guidance on how to notify individuals and supervisor to make a discrimination complaint without retaliation. Case Questions 1-3, page 101 1. After being sued but before trial, why do you think that the agency promoted a larger percentage of Blacks than whites when a large percentage of whites actually pass the exam? This type of situation is somewhat common in the workplace. In this case it caused the black employees who had been promoted provisionally to supervisors pending a passing score on a written examination that had been given to all potential candidates. I agree with the findings that there has been a desperate impact in the number of Blacks passing the test at 68%.
